Manuscript Submission Information

The Editorial Board of Writing Past Colonialism invites proposals for monographs to be published in the series.

An initiative of the Institute, the series is published by University of Hawai'i Press. The Institute also has an arrangement with Melbourne University Press for co-publication of select titles in the UHP series.

The leitmotiv of the series is the idea of difference – differences between culture and politics, as well as differences in ways of seeing and the sources that can be drawn upon. In this sense, the series is postcolonial. Yet the space we hope to open up is one resistant to new orthodoxies, one that allows for alternative and contesting formulations. Though grounded in studies relating to the formerly colonized world, the series seeks to extend contemporary global analyses.

The Editorial Board welcomes proposals (including a curriculum vitae and ideally, two completed chapters) for manuscripts to be published in the series. While a broad understanding of postcolonialism guides editorial policy, the Editorial Board is particularly interested in:

  • Law and postcolonial studies

  • Psychoanalysis

  • Indigeneity

  • Postcolonialism and globalisation

  • Postcolonial geographies

  • Postcolonialism and economics

  • Non-British colonialisms

Proposals for future manuscripts for the series are actively sought. Benefits of publishing in the series include:

  • Prompt decisions about publication

  • Speedy book production.

  • A close working relationship between the series and the Institute's journal Postcolonial Studies

  • Excellent international marketing arrangements.

Proposals should be addressed to
